12/17/12 - Holiday Toy Social
DC919 invites members & friends to join us for a holiday toy social! What are you playing with lately? Got a Raspberry Pi? WiFi Pineapple? PwnPlug? Or been digging into a neat new hacking tool like SpoofTooph, Anti, or UltraReset? Or perhaps a new pick or new practice lock?
Come share your toys, see what other people are playing with, and talk about what's on your wish list this holiday season...
The social gathering will start at 7pm on December 17, 2012 at Splat Space in Durham (directions & parking info). As with the October MetaSploit workshop, we'll be crowdsourcing pizza - please RSVP to info@dc919.org if you plan to attend so we know how many pies to order! SplatSpace is a BYOB environment; please drink responsibly and be respectful of our hosts' space.
- TrueCrypt for data storage encryption
- TextSecure (at bottom of page) for encrypted SMS
- HTTPS Everywhere for secure browsing
- GPG for on-the-fly encryption

11/19/12 - CryptoParty!
DC919 extends an open invitation to the community to join us for a pre-Thanksgiving CryptoParty! CryptoParty is "a grassroots global endeavour to introduce the basics of practical cryptography such as the Tor anonymity network, public key encryption (PGP/GPG), TrueCrypt, and virtual private networks to the general public." Want to learn more? Check out this overview of its genesis & history, or watch a short (4min) introductory video - there's even a handbook!
At our CryptoParty, DC919 members will talk about how we use:
Do you use a crypto tool not listed here? Show up and teach us how it works! (And let us know at info@dc919.org so we can add it to this list...)
Young crypto enthusiasts are welcome if accompanied by an adult! Unfortunately, we can't accommodate unattended minors. :(
The CryptoParty will start at 7pm on November 19, 2012 at Splat Space in Durham (directions & parking info). As with the October MetaSploit workshop, we'll be crowdsourcing pizza - please RSVP to info@dc919.org if you plan to attend so we know how many pies to order!

DC919 is extending an open invitation to the community to join us for an introduction workshop on Metasploit basics. Metasploit is a penetration testing framework that allows users to leverage community built exploits and tools to perform security assessments against services. The Metasploitable virtual machine is an intentionally vulnerable virtual machine aimed at demonstrating many of Metasploit's features. DC919 members Sussurro and Ronin are going to be demonstrating how to approach the Metasploitable distribution navigate the Backtrack 3 Linux distribution, map network hosts using Nmap, and finally assess and exploit services using Metasploit.
This is a free hands on workshop. Bring cash for pizza! Let us know in advance if you have special food restrictions.
